Tesla’s in-car visualizations for features such as Autopilot and Full Self-Driving may be updated thanks to a switch to Epic Games’ Unreal Engine. According to Not a Tesla App, Tesla hacker greentheonly claims to have found evidence of changes in Tesla firmware 2025.20 for Tesla Model S and Model X cars with AMD chips.
Unreal Engine is probably best known as a tool for developing video games, but Epic has recently been actively promoting its use among car manufacturers. According to greentheonly, Tesla currently uses the Godot engine for visualization, so if Tesla switches to Unreal Engine, it will join a growing number of automakers using Epic’s engine in their cars, including Rivian, Ford, GMC, Volvo, and Lotus.
Tesla and Epic Games did not immediately respond to requests for comment. This isn’t the first time the two companies have been linked: last year, Tesla Cybertruck was added to Fortnite.
