iOS 26 and macOS Tahoe will be available this fall

The next major versions of iOS and macOS, iOS 26 and macOS Tahoe 26, will be released as free updates this fall, Apple announced at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

One of the main features of both updates is the new “Liquid Glass” software design, which adds more transparency to the operating systems, including inside applications and in small elements such as buttons and sliders. Apple is also redesigning apps to integrate this design. The new design is inspired by Apple’s visionOS software.

The beta version of the update for developers will be available today, and the public beta will be available next month, according to Apple.

The fall release is not a big surprise, as the company usually releases its major software updates in the fall. iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, for example, were released on the same day in September 2024. And iOS 17 was released a few days earlier than macOS Sonoma in September 2023.
