Instagram, Threads, Whatsapp, and other services are still dealing with the problem

Meta apps and services such as Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Messenger are still experiencing problems two hours after a major outage left users unable to log in or even load the company’s websites. Employees and users of X and Bluesky have reported problems downloading and using the Meta apps. For a while, even Meta’s website displayed the text “This page is currently unavailable.”

There have been over 90,000 reported issues on Downdetector for Facebook.com alone, and the site is still showing some reports of outages on Whatsapp, Threads, and Messenger. Clearly, the problem is not centered on a single Meta app or service. The company’s own status page for enterprise customers shows “severe outages” in almost all of Meta’s APIs and advertising tools.

When Engadget reached out to Meta for comment, the company pointed to a brief statement on X in which it acknowledged the problem.

The last time Meta dealt with a major outage was in March 2024, when users were unable to access their apps and services for two hours. Meta’s Director of Communications Andy Stone attributed the last outage to a “technical issue,” and Meta is offering the same explanation today, but it is not yet clear when the problem will be fully resolved.
