ukrtelecom-enThe State Property Fund stands for refusal from fixation of 25% of shares in Ukrtelecom, Ukraine’s largest telecommunications company, in the state’s ownership, Property Fund deputy head Yurii Yakovlev has told journalists, un.ua says.

“We’re proposing refuse from fixation of 25% of shares [in Ukrtelecom] in the state’s ownership and offer them for sale together with the rest of the shares,” he said.

Thus, a strategic investor will be able to buy more than 75% of shares in Ukrtelecom.

At the same time, the Fund finds not wise to sell 10% to 17% of shares in Ukrtelecom at stock exchanges.

“[It is wise] to single out the rest [of the shares] between 10% and 17% [for sale] at stock exchanges,” Yakovlev said.

He supposes that the mentioned stake in Ukrtelecom can be placed on exchange marketplaces in June provided for the government has not objections against this.

The Fund’s deputy head opines, the controlling stake in the telecom company may be sold in early autumn.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, former transport and communications minister Yosyp Vinskyi, the leader of the People’s Power party, thinks the starting price of Ukrtelecom of UAH 18 billion justified, if offered for privatisation.

Ukrtelecom occupies 78.5% of the fixed-telephony market, it services 9.9 million subscribers.
