Rakuten Viber has conducted a survey among Ukrainians to find out what percentage of respondents have encountered cyber fraudsters online and whether they believe that the number of attackers has increased over the past year. More than 50 thousand users from Ukraine took part in the survey on the official Viber Ukraine channel.
The results of the survey showed that 81% of Ukrainians have encountered cyber fraudsters online: 43% have fallen victim to criminals, while another 38% have received suspicious messages or calls and did not respond to them. Only 19% have never encountered anything like this online.
The answers to the question “Have you ever been a victim of cyber fraud on the Internet?” were distributed as follows:
- Yes, I have received questionable messages and calls – 43%.
- There have been cases of suspicious notifications, but I do not respond – 38%.
- Never had such a thing – 19%.
Rakuten Viber also asked Ukrainians whether they think the number of cyber fraudsters has increased over the past year. 85% of respondents believe that the number of online criminals has increased significantly, while only 2% think the opposite – that there are fewer online criminals than before. Another 6% of respondents said that the number of cybercriminals remained the same, and 7% said they were not interested in this issue.
Answers to the question “Do you think the number of Internet fraudsters has increased over the year?” were distributed as follows:
- Yes, it has increased significantly – 85%.
- Remained at the same level – 6%
- I think that the number of fraudsters has decreased – 2%
- I do not care about it – 7%
