Wi-Fi in a shelter

During the 2022-2023 academic year, a modern Wi-Fi 6 network was deployed in the shelters of 27 educational institutions. This will provide continuous access to education for students and teachers throughout Ukraine – where face-to-face learning is possible. 22 universities, 2 employment centers and 3 vocational education institutions across Ukraine received modern Huawei equipment for high-speed Internet in shelters. The partner and implementer of the project was the Foundation for Educational Initiatives.

Project characteristics

As a result of the project, the delivery and installation of 500 access points, 50 switches, 200 power adapters, and powerful routers to increase connection speeds has been completed. These devices will make it possible to build a modern Wi-Fi 6 network in the university’s bomb shelters.

One access point will provide Internet access for more than 100 students and teachers. In total, the amount of Huawei equipment provided will provide Internet access to more than 50 thousand users. This capacity can be increased if necessary. In the shelters, which also function as points of invincibility, the Internet can also be used by citizens.

The final stage of the project is to train technical specialists from the universities participating in the Wi-Fi in Shelters program in the Huawei HCIA-Datacom course on setting up Wi-Fi wireless solutions. The training will take place online from September 18 to 22, 2023. The trainer is Vitalii Marianovskyi, a leading national specialist in network technologies, a certified trainer of Huawei ICT Academy.
